College Station man arrested for stealing car back from tow lot news 

 

According to the Brazos County Sheriff's Office, a College Station man was taken into custody early on Friday in Bryan after he allegedly drove his car into the tow lot gate and jumped the AMA towing fence in an attempt to get it back.


According to records from the Brazos County Jail, Lesly Matthew Benodin, 26, has been charged with a misdemeanor count of trespassing and criminal mischief of between $2,500 and $30,000.


According to authorities, at approximately 1:55 a.m., they were called to an accident scene where a guy who appeared to be intoxicated had reportedly jumped a tow lot fence and crashed his car into the gate.

Police claim that the proprietors of the tow lot released security camera footage showing a suspect scaling a barbed-wire-covered chain-link fence.

Police claim that the tow lot owners revealed security camera footage showing a suspect driving into the gate in an attempt to escape after scaling the barbed wire-topped chain-link fence and getting into a white vehicle.


Police claimed that after interacting with the owners of the home, they got in touch with Benodin, who purportedly acknowledged being the person seen in the security footage. Benodin reported that the tow company had towed his car and was not responding quickly enough to the police. 


According to authorities, the property owner assessed the damages at about $5,000.

The state jail felony of criminal mischief with a value between $2,500 and $30,000 carries a potential fine of $10,000 along with a maximum sentence of two years in prison.


Jail records state that Benodin is being held under a $7,000 bond.
